Dambulla Cave Temple

The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is one of Sri Lanka’s most treasured historical and religious sites. Pidurangala Rock

Pidurangala Rock is a massive rock formation located near the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress in central Sri Lanka. While it is often overshadowed by Sigiriya, Pidurangala offers an equally stunning and more tranquil experience, with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including an unobstructed view of Sigiriya itself.

The rock is steeped in both history and religious significance. Its origins as a Buddhist monastery date back to the 5th century, when King Kashyapa, who built the Sigiriya fortress, relocated monks to Pidurangala to make room for his palace. Visitors can still see the remains of ancient caves, meditation platforms, and a reclining Buddha statue near the base of the rock.

The climb to the top of Pidurangala is moderately challenging, involving a steep ascent and some scrambling over rocks near the summit. However, the effort is well worth it.
